Philippe van Basshuysen has been Professor of Public Health Ethics at the Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences (CELLS) at Leibniz Universität Hannover since 2024. His research interests include public health, the development and use of novel technologies, and the design and regulation of markets. He investigates urgent ethical issues arising in these fields by integrating perspectives from philosophy, politics and economics. At CELLS, he teaches courses on the philosophy and ethics of public health, the philosophy of science, and philosophy, politics and economics (PPE).

Philippe van Basshuysen holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from the London School of Economics (2019). Prior to this, he completed an M.Sc. in philosophy of science at the LSE, after studying philosophy, mathematics and social sciences at Heidelberg University and the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Prior to his appointment at CELLS, he was a postdoc at Leibniz University Hannover and an assistant professor at Wageningen University & Research.
